How to become a one-man-band? (part2)

After struggling with finding a reasonable way to combine Ableton Live loop recording, my Marshall amplifier and my POD X3 Live floorboard, I found a way of controlling it all, without (too much) additional hardware or pedals. In fact, I can diminish the amount of pedals considerably, as I don't have to use the Marshall pedal switchboard. I did had to buy a MIDI-2-USB connector, since the X3 Live connection through USB to the laptop does not send MIDI signals, only audio.

Some freebies : pitch correction and a free piano

Beware, long intro. Like a good Pink Floyd song. When browsing the http://homerecording.be forum I've seen two nice gems inside the "downloads" section: autotalent and a Yamaha C7 grand piano.

Looking for new band/musicians

As Transport Aerian is currently a studio-project only, I'm looking for people to collaborate with.
Do you live near Leuven and have some time available, contact me.

Creating profiles

Since artists can show themselves on several places, I've started to create and maintain several profiles, on sites such as MySpace, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Reverbnation and Vi.Be (the Belgian Myspace). So far, I prefer bandcamp (liberal rules and clean minimal layout) and vi.be (mandatory for Belgian music contests).

MuseScore Open Source Score creation

I have talked about software for musical scores before. Last time, I was getting a feel for LilyPond, a LaTeX-like formatting system.

Now I discovered, by accident, an Open Source Qt-based project, called MuseScore.
I is comparable to the Finale in that it lets you create a score as you do with a Wysiwyg document editor.

In B Flat 2.0

Just a link to a nice musical experiment/project/concept... Ask several people to create a piece on the same chord (B Flat), record them and put them on YouTube. And let the viewer decide which to play, when, how loud ... And have the whole sound fit together.

Played with Transport Aerian, Throwing Sixes and Corpus

I play guitar with Transport Aerian. Last weekend we played live in Herent, in a "Youth House", called Molotov. The place was falling apart and smelled a bit, but we played a good set.

The new line-up works really well:

  • Hamlet singing, shouting, FX and guitar knows how to behave on stage
  • Mary playing bass and acting cool and hidden behind her long hair, but her steady playing works really well.
  • Bart getting better and better into the songs. And when he starts rockin'...

Some nice freebies

At http://togeostudios.com/category/downloads/ you can download several free packs for Ableton Live, mostly as prepared settings for the included Simpler instrument. Check it out.

Nice overview of audio applications on Linux

Check http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/gifting-season-linux-audio-holidays

They give a nice overview on different possible applications you could use if you are on the Linux platform. From free and open source to commercial and proprietary, there are choices for everyone.

Especially Ardour seems to be getting bigger and bigger, certainly when they finally will handle MIDI in release 3 (not available at the moment). But also MusE, Denemo, FluidSynth and others seem interesting.

Transport Aerian at B52 on 17th of October

It was nice, fenomenal, spectacular. And you were not there. (Whish you were here?)

Yet another "Spinal Tap" moment: Transport Aerian, using samples to replace a sick drummer, plays for a special audience! Bassist Mary brought her Mum and two friends, a few people from B52 and then the other band of the evening: Nothing Personal. We, polite as we are, kept listening to them of course!
