I don't understand Drupal anymore, but anyways. Music posting works again so I have uploaded many new songs again to this site. I also am recovering from a hard drive failure: the disk of the Powerbook died WHILE MAKING A BACKUP! So I end up without disk and with only 18GB from the 100GB drive backed up. I still have to restore the last backup from june from our local system, which I hope was made as late as possible. I will surely have lost some of my personal pictures, but by pure luck, some of my latest recordings did survive.
The worst thing happened. I had ordered an external Lacie drive, two months ago. When it finally arrived, I started making a backup of my laptop and while the system was copying, it hang. I had to force it to shut down and discovered that the internal hard drive could not be found anymore! So I ended up with only a partial backup without pictures, desktop, music and movies folders, but luckily with the few recordings I made last week, during my holiday. And the original data, on the laptop drive is gone forever.
During the yearly family reunion, I played one of my own songs. My father-in-law asked me an hour before we were leaving the house to take my guitar. About five minutes before I should play, I decided on the song. It was "oP Het Dak" and was slightly improvised on-the-spot. The family liked it.
At http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sound_samples you can access a huge (8.5 Gb) library of different samples, accompanied with free resources (e.g. tutorials). Read the license before you apply them into your music making.
An article at http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/kokkini-zita-audio-software-fons-adr... explains the development of a realistic organ synthesizer and also the usage of convolution reverb (using room characteristics to improve the realism of a reverberation effect).
You can link Garageband from within Live, for both MIDI and Audio.
It was bound to happen... I've presented my PhD. on the 15th of October 2007. It is totally unrelated to music (although I included some screenshots of multimedia-software).And now what? Well, I'll be continuing with Academic research around Building Information Modeling and Computer Aided Architectural Design. And I will have to find time again to make some more music. I've recently created the basic structure of a new song and I intend to return to Live to record and arrange some of my recent creations.
While I thought sharing this personal site was a good idea, this is unfortunately without taking into account that spammers try to flush Drupal sites... After I removed about 500 comments (all received in the single weekend I did not had a chance to check my mail), I disabled anonymous comments. Then I had to disable anonymous subscriptions to postings, which were also being made (by bots I assume).
For the baptism of my youngest son, I will play together with my father. We are still choosing which pieces to perform, but it will be on guitar and flute.
I forgot the correct names of the last pieces...
I've played live again at a wedding ceremony of a friend.
