After about 15 (maybe 20?) years, I finally bought a new guitar amplifier. I was looking at a Fender Hot Rod Reverb and a Marshall JVM 215C. Both are combo amplifiers (amplifier and cabinet combined) but have a different goal:

• The Fender has a nice, warm, bluesy tone, and a drive setting (with an extra drive+ setting for heavy stuff. The clean tone is nice, the heavy tone was slightly less convincing. 40W combo. Check out http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0213202000
• The Marshall JVM 215C has two channels (clean/crunch and overdrive), each with three different gain/drive settings. 50Watt combo. http://www.marshallamps.com/product_range.asp?productRangeId=24

I choose the Marshall, as it had a good clean channel (not as warm as the Fender) and a very nice overdriven part (to me, much better than the Fender). It has a reverb and an FX loop, so I can plug my boss pedals between the drive and the power amplifier (where they belong).

I played a first rehearsal already and it seemed to work out fine. Not yet the psychedelic stuff I could get from the Korg ToneWorks or a POD, but very decent clean and heavy rock.
